The Challenge Goffstown needed to coordinate two water sources, integrating existing groundwater wells with an upgraded surface water source. A pilot study found source water turbidities ranging from 0.1 to 8.0 NTU and corrosive pH levels. Additionally, budgetary constraints included the need for minimal operator attention.
The Solution Kinetico developed a 400 gpm capacity system capable of delivering 800,000 gpd and providing 100 percent redundancy to meet state regulations. The system included two trains of calcium carbonate pre-filters for corrosion control and pH level maintenance, plus two trains of Macrolite® filters (70 mesh) for particulate removal. A complete automation/instrumentation package optimizes system operation of the filter plant as well as the groundwater wells for monitoring and adjusting as needed. The system also includes remote diagnostics enabling operation from Kinetico.
The Result The Kinetico system exceeded precinct expectations, allowing Goffstown to meet SWTR requirements, cost and operational goals. The pre-filter’s sacrificial media eliminates the existing need for manual potassium hydroxide addition and adjusts pH levels to meet lead and copper requirements. It handles a high loading rate of 10 gpm per square foot, 2-3 times more than a typical conventional treatment plant, providing a compact package that surpasses performance guidelines, while still keeping operator attention to a minimum by eliminating the need- for chemical pretreatment. |
